The legendary stories of Egyptian pharaohs have enamored each of us as a child and still linger in the memory lanes. One of the most well-known Egyptian Pharaohs who has captured the imagination of one and all at some point of time is King Tut.
If you are stumped for costume ideas for an upcoming fancy dress competition or Halloween, why not make an ostentatious entrance dressed as King Tut and get a treatment fit for royalty. While you can always buy a King Tut costume from the market, it is moderately easy to make one at home. Moreover, you can make it as elaborate as you want and embellish it as you fancy.
However, before you start making a King Tut costume, you need to stock up on the following things – a knee length white colored kilt and a white fabric collar, white hook and loop tape that adheres to fabric, a fitted cardboard crown, gold acrylic paint and small paint brushes. You also need to buy fabric paint in various jewel colors such as ruby, turquoise, sapphire, emerald and amethyst, a soft lead pencil and a ruler for marking the fabric, fake jewels and colored stones, fabric craft glue, simple sandals and fake jewelry.
In case you want to make the kilt yourself, you can do so by hemming the fabric for the same and pleating it. You can also leave the kilt plain. Once the kilt has been sewn, attach a strip of the hook and loop tape on its inside so that it can be fastened once the person overlaps it. Next, take the white fabric collar and attach a hook and loop tape to its ends as well. Once that is set, you can embellish the collar with jewel colored fabric paints and glue some color stones as well. Leave the collar to dry overnight so that you do not smudge the paint by mistake.
To make the blue battle crown that is an integral part of King Tut costume, just take a piece of blue cardboard and cut it in half. Next, sketch the outline of a Githic style arch on it with the lead pencil. Make sure that the arch is at least 8 inches tall and the base of the arch is straight. Once you are satisfied with the design, measure it around your head so that you can add more space for the closure. Mark the space with a pencil and cut along the edges of the crown. Use the gold fabric color to paint details on the crown and use a beautiful colored stone as the crown centerpiece. Let the paint dry overnight and staple the same in the morning.
Coming to the footwear, a simple sandal will suffice. In addition, you can also use fake beard to complete the look. However, do not forget to accessorize with a lot of gold rings, bracelets and necklaces. You can wear anklets as well and line your eyes with a dark black kohl pencil to add the finishing touch.
